Hello Scholars, welcome back to my opportunities blog, I did a little research and found this great opportunity for you. today I will share with you two (2) funding opportunities from the University of Manitoba in Canada. No doubt Canada is one of the most preferred choices of many students for their studies and the University of Manitoba is one of the top Universities in Canada. Here are the Two funding opportunities:
1. University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF)
Each year, more than $2 million dollars in university graduate fellowships are offered to full-time master’s and PhD students to recognize and support academic excellence. The fellowships are offered to students who have demonstrated superior intellectual ability and academic accomplishment.
Students must be recommended by their department or unit to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for a UMGF.
Value | UMGF master’s: $14,000 per year UMGF doctoral: $18,000 per year |
Duration | UMGF master’s: 12 or 24 months UMGF doctoral: 12, 24, 36 or 48 months |
Application deadline | Please contact your department |
Application process | Please contact your department |
Value and duration
UMGF master’s awards are valued at $14,000 per year for 12 or 24 months, for up to a total of $28,000.
UMGF doctoral awards are valued at $18,000 per year for 12, 24, 36, or 48 months, for up to a total of $72,000.
Departments/units determine the value and duration of an award and must meet the eligibility criteria as outlined in the eligibility table.
Total maximum UMGF support for any individual graduate student is five years (60 months). This means that a student who has received a UMGF for two years in their master’s program will only be eligible for three years of UMGF funding at the doctoral level.
Period of support available
Here are the number of months of UMGF funding a student can receive, based on the number of months they have completed in their program.
Eligibility
Students must have a minimum admission GPA of 3.0 to be considered for this award. Please contact your department as they may have a higher GPA requirement.
To hold an award:
Students must have been admitted as full-time students without provision or have cleared provisional admission as a master’s or Ph.D. student in a graduate program at the University of Manitoba.
The UMGF is tenable in the department or unit in which it was offered at the University of Manitoba.
Please refer to the University of Manitoba Faculty of Graduate Studies Institutional Award Holder’s Guide for details.
Application and process
Please consult your department or unit for the UMGF application process and deadline. Once the department/unit determines their selection, students are recommended to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. FGS will notify the award recipients with an official letter via email.
2. G. Clarence Elliott Fellowship
The G. Clarence Elliott Fellowship is an endowment fund that provides an annual graduate fellowship to a full-time University of Manitoba graduate student in either a master’s or doctoral program.
The fellowship was established in 1994 in honor of Mr. G. Clarence Elliott, former vice-president and treasurer of The Great-West Life Assurance Company, who also made his mark as a real estate pioneer.

- Business administration (Asper School of Business)
- City planning (Faculty of Architecture)

Annual recipients will be invited to a congratulatory dinner and will be presented with a certificate at the event.
The award is not renewable, although previous recipients may reapply in a subsequent year, subject to a satisfactory progress report from the recipient’s advisor and department (including a GPA of at least 3.0).
