Documents needed for the Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarships

To ensure your application is complete and competitive, please read and attend to the following:

  1. Research Supervisor

You must contact an academic staff member and obtain an informal agreement from them to supervise you if you are successful in receiving the scholarship. It is essential to include email evidence of the supervisor’s agreement with your application. This step is crucial, as applicants who do not have a supervisor at the time of application will not be considered for a scholarship. Establishing this connection demonstrates your initiative and ensures you have the necessary support for your research.

  1. Publications

You must include evidence of your research publications. You may include up to five of your best publications with your application. Each publication must be accompanied by a completed cover sheet; publications without cover sheets will not be considered. Publications will be used to assess the quality of your previous research in the area you intend to study at Flinders University. If you have more than five publications, consult with your Flinders University supervisor to select the top five. Briefly explain why these five were chosen. Do not provide more than five publications. Additional publications may be noted on your CV or in a separate list, but coversheets are not required for these additional publications.

Typically, only publications in English should be included among the top five. Publications in other languages will be accepted only if the nature of the publication (for example, a report to a government agency) dictates that another language is most appropriate. Ensure that your publications are not more than five years old. Due to the highly competitive nature of the AGRTPS, applicants who have not published are unlikely to be competitive. This requirement underscores the importance of demonstrating your research capabilities through published work.

  1. Academic Transcripts

You must provide certified copies of all your university-level academic transcripts, translated into English. Please do not provide secondary school certificates or non-educational certificates or awards. These academic transcripts are critical in assessing your academic background and ensuring you meet the entry requirements for a higher degree by research.

  1. Research Proposal

You must include a detailed research proposal of approximately 500 words. This proposal should outline the problem, hypothesis or research question you intend to address, and the methodology or approach you plan to use. A well-articulated research proposal is essential, as it demonstrates your ability to plan and conduct independent research, which is a key criterion for the scholarship.

  1. Academic Referees

Complete Section A of two copies of the Academic Referee’s Confidential Report forms and forward them to two appropriate referees of your choice. Ideally, these referees should have an informed, personal, and professional knowledge of your academic abilities and be able to exercise judgment on your research potential. On your application form, indicate to whom the Referee Report forms have been sent. Academic Referee reports must be returned to rhdscholarships@flinders.edu.au by the application closing date. These reports provide an external assessment of your suitability for the scholarship and are an important part of your application.

  1. Curriculum Vitae
