What the Macquarie University Research Scholarship Covers

Note: Effective 1 January 2025, the standard rate for stipend scholarships awarded to graduate researchers at Macquarie University will increase by nine percent to $38,500 per annum (full-time rate).

The Bachelor of Philosophy scholarship is valued at $5,000 per session and is paid as a lump sum.

Applicants for graduate research scholarships at Macquarie University must meet the minimum entry criteria to the relevant course of study.

  • Statement of Exclusion: If you have been excluded from a university course, provide a statement explaining the circumstances.
  • Proof of Enrollment: If you are applying for a Cotutelle or joint PhD program, provide proof of enrollment at the partner university, including the expected thesis submission date.
  • Transfer Information: If you are transferring from another Australian institution, provide details of:
    • Enrollment periods at the previous institution.
    • Study mode (full-time or part-time).
    • Scholarships received during your study.
    • Total Equivalent Full-Time Student Load (EFTSL) consumed.

For applicants to the MRes Year 2, MPhil, and PhD programs in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, an email from a supervisor confirming their willingness to supervise you is mandatory.

Application Procedure for the Macquarie University Research Scholarship 

New applicants to Macquarie University must:

1. Complete the combined course and scholarship application via the Online Application System.

2. Arrange for two academic referee reports to be submitted to the Graduate Research Academy.

3. Indicate the scholarship reference number under the scholarship details question.

Note: Applicants who are already enrolled (having commenced the Macquarie HDR program in session 2, 2024 only) or have received a valid Macquarie University letter of offer for a higher degree research program within the last six months must:

1. Download the guidelines on how to submit a Scholarship Only application.

2. Submit an online HDR Scholarship Only application form with supporting documents.

3. Indicate the scholarship reference number under the scholarship details question.

Macquarie University will inform the successful applicant of entitlements at the time of the scholarship offer.
