The Killam Postdoctoral Research Scholarship is a fully funded opportunity established in memory of Izaak Walton Killam, through the will of his wife, Dorothy Johnston Killam, and her generous lifetime donations. This scholarship supports successful candidates in pursuing advanced education and research at one of five selected Canadian institutions: The University of British Columbia, Dalhousie University, the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Applications for the fully funded Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship are accepted annually and open to candidates from most research fields.

The goal of this fully funded scholarship is to support applicants who will make significant contributions to the advancement of education and learning, and who will achieve distinction in their field. Dorothy Johnston Killam emphasized that “A Killam scholar should not be a one-sided individual; special intellectual distinction should be founded upon sound character.”

Each year, about six applicants are awarded this prestigious fully funded scholarship.
