Eligibility Criteria for the Schwarzman Scholarship Program
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Hold an undergraduate degree or be in the process of completing one before August 1
of their Schwarzman Scholars enrollment year. There are no restrictions on the field of undergraduate study; all disciplines are accepted. However, applicants must demonstrate how participating in Schwarzman Scholars will enhance their leadership potential within their respective fields.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 28 as of August 1 of their enrollment year for Schwarzman Scholars.
- Exhibit strong English skills, as all instruction is conducted in English. If English is not
the applicant’s native language, official proficiency test scores are required, unless exempted based on specific academic criteria. Acceptable tests include TOEFL iBT (minimum score 100), IELTS (minimum score 7), and Cambridge English exams (minimum scores C1 or C2).
Required Documents for the Schwarzman Scholarship Program

- Each applicant must furnish two essays and two short answer responses. The essays comprise a Leadership Essay (750 words) and a Statement of Purpose (500 words). These essays play a pivotal role in the application process, allowing the selection committee to gain insight into your individuality, leadership capabilities, and potential, as well as your writing and analytical skills. Detailed guidelines for each essay are provided within the application form. Essays can be uploaded as either PDF or Word documents. The two Short Answer responses must not exceed 100 words each. It’s important to adhere strictly to the word limits, as any essays surpassing the limits may risk disqualification. Additionally, footnotes, headers, and titles contribute to the total word count of an essay. You have the option to review your uploaded essays at any time before final submission.
- Provide three letters of recommendation by providing names, professional titles, and contact details. You can change how your name is displayed to your recommender if they know you by a different name or nickname. Once you enter the recommender’s details and click “Send to Recommender,” a system-generated Recommendation Request email with a unique submission link will be automatically sent to the recommender.

Note: In addition to this document, you will also need to show two full-time work experiences. If you are a student without full-time employment, you’re not obligated to fill out this section. Lack of full-time work experience does not disadvantage your application. Application Process for the Schwarzman Scholarship Program
All applicants must complete the online application form in English. All necessary materials must be submitted electronically, submissions via email or mail are not accepted.
To get started, create an account to begin a new application. The email address used to create your account will be used for all communications regarding your admissions status. Upon creating an account, you will receive a system-generated email containing a temporary PIN to activate your account.
