Global Korea Scholarship is designed to provide international students with opportunities to study at higher educational institutions in Korea in pursuit of academic degrees, which will enhance international education exchange and deepen mutual friendship between Korea and participating countries. In 2024, the Korean government aims to invite 2,200 international students for the 2024 Global Korea Scholarship program for graduate degrees.

About the Scholarship

  • Study in: Korea
  • £9000 (first year of study only)
  • Academic year: 2024/25
  • Open to: International students
  • Qualification level: 2-year Master’s Degree plus 1 year of Korean language program, 3 years Doctorate plus 1 year Korean language program, 6 months or 1 year research program.

There are different deadlines for the embassy track and university track. For Embassy track criteria, applicants should check the Korean embassy in their home country.

  • For the university track, applicants must contact eligible universities for the deadline.
  • The deadline to apply for the Korean Government GKS Scholarship 2024-2025 varies from Country to Country, university, and the Korean Embassy of your Country.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility of Applicants includes:

  1. All applicants must hold citizenship of designated countries that are invited to take part in the GKS program
  2. All applicants must hold a first degree. Applicants who are expected to graduate by July 31st, 2024 can also apply for the program with a certificate of expected graduation. Such applicants must submit their official graduation certificate (or diploma) and final academic transcript to GKS Center, NIIED by July 31st, 2024. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of your acceptance.
  3. They should not hold dual citizenship or Korean citizenship.
  4. International students must have a higher CGPA. This means he should be in the top 20% of his class or equal to or above 2.64/4.00.
  5. The applicant’s age must be under 40 years.
  6. Students must be in good health, both mentally and physically.
  7. Postdoctoral Research Program must have a doctoral degree or degree equivalent to a doctoral degree.
  8. They must submit English Language Requirements/Certificates.
  9. Students who have already received Korean scholarships are not eligible to apply for KGSP 2024.

Application Process

There are two different ways to apply for the Korean Government Scholarship 2024: 

  • Applicants must apply either to a Korean Embassy where they hold citizenship (embassy track). The embassy will select eligible applicants, ask them to apply to some university, and nominate you as its GKS candidate. It will send the nomination to the NIIED who will make the final decision.
  • Directly to one of the designated universities (university track). students have to apply directly to the university. The university nominates you as a 2024 GKS candidate and will send your nomination to NIIED, as the NIIED will take the final decision.

For inquiries regarding application submission (i.e., application deadline, submission method, additional required documents, authentication, translation certificate, etc.), please contact each embassy and university directly since they will be conducting the first round of selection.
