Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the University of Glasgow African Excellence Award, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Excellence: Achieve grades equivalent to a UK First Class Honours degree.
  • Admission Offer: Secure an offer (conditional or unconditional) for a one-year postgraduate taught Master’s program commencing in September 2025. While an offer is not required at the time of scholarship application, it is necessary for interview consideration. Applicants should be mindful of program application timelines as detailed on the respective program webpages.
  • Fee Status: Be classified as an international student for tuition fee purposes.
  • Residency and Nationality: Be domiciled in Africa and hold a passport from one of the eligible African countries.
  • Career Plan: Demonstrate a clear career and/or development plan that will be enhanced by Master’s level study, as outlined in the application form.
  • Financial Evidence: Provide proof of meeting the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) maintenance requirements for living costs by June 30, 2025. This is only required if offered the scholarship after a successful interview.
