Three scholarships are available for eligible postgraduate programs offered by the University of Edinburgh in the 2024-2025 academic session.  The Glenmore Postgraduate Scholarship especially encourages applications from students originating from Africa. This scholarship aims to support talented individuals in pursuing advanced medical education and research, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

The Glenmore Postgraduate Scholarship aims to support successful applicants who, upon completing their studies, intend to return to their home countries, where their advanced medical education will have the most significant impact. It is envisioned that these individuals will contribute substantially to the improvement of healthcare systems and practices in regions that will benefit the most from their enhanced knowledge and skills. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who have not previously had access to such advanced educational opportunities, ensuring that the scholarship promotes educational equity and supports those who can drive meaningful change in underserved areas. By prioritizing these candidates, the scholarship seeks to maximize its positive global impact, particularly in developing countries.

By targeting African students, the Glenmore Medical Postgraduate Scholarship seeks to contribute to the development of healthcare expertise and leadership within the continent, ultimately enhancing the global medical community.

Edinburgh offers a high-quality learning and teaching environment for its 26,000 undergraduate and over 15,000 postgraduate students, with 45% of these students coming from outside the UK. The university is at the forefront of educational innovation, being the first in the UK to offer massive open online courses (MOOCs) to a global audience. It was also awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2013 for its distance learning master’s programs, which have transformed postgraduate education for trainee surgeons.

In this post, we will walk you through all the details of this scholarship.
