Requirements for Malta Work Visa Process 2023

If your stay is longer than 90 days you need to apply for the National Long Stay Visa which is also called D Visa. In addition to a long-stay visa, foreign employees will need a work permit.

In getting a Malta work visa you need to select the type of work permit you want to apply for. Malta offers three types of Work permits and Residency programs.

Types of Malta Work Permits

The types of Malta work permits are as follows:

  • Single Permit.
  • Key employment initiative.
  • EU Blue Card.

1)Malta Single Work Permit

This permit is issued to individuals to live and work in Malta for the long term. An individual must have a Valid Job offer from the Malta employer. Your employer can also submit the application on your behalf. A single permit takes two to three months to process.

2) Malta Key Employee Initiative

This Visa is for highly skilled workers and can be issued in five days only. You have to make sure to meet the following eligibility requirements for the Key Employee Initiative:

Relevant Skills and work experience for the qualified job.

  • An annual salary of at least €30,000.
  • Document copies of your previous work experiences over the last three years.

3) EU Blue Card

The EU Blue card is for highly skilled positions and workers in the educated field issued to highly qualified educational applicants. The Maltese Government will give you a Blue card in 3 years. After getting a Blue card you are allowed to move to any EU Country to live and work.

Types of Malta Residency Program

Note that you can bring your family along on Malta residency programs. Types of Malta Residency Programs are:

  • Digital Nomad Visa
  • Startup Residence Program
  • Permanent Residency Program

These residency programs are new programs by the Maltese Government to attract foreign workers. These are fairly easier than the Malta work permits. You can apply online and send your documents by mail.

Malta Nomad Residence Permit

This Permit is a popular one. It is for one who can work remotely from home. He/she can be self-employed, an employee, or a Freelancer. The Permit is available to individuals who can work remotely and independent of location, using telecommunications technologies.

For this Visa, you don’t need a Job offer from Malta. You will get a Nomad residency permit for 3 years, later on, you can renew it and after 5 years you can convert it into a Passport.
